Google

You have to love the Google search engine or hate it, in the past I have on the whole loved it, despite what they did to Usenet group search a few years ago that ruined it. That might be all about to change as I have started using other search engines for some of my searches.

Let me explain my move away from Google, and how it has occurred over the last few weeks, not long ago you could do an image search on a erotic subject and find thousands of hits, all of which matched what you were looking for as long as you turned off the safe filter. Now the same search, with the same settings, tends to come up with far less erotic results.

Something has changed on Goggle in the UK, probably driven by the nanny state and the controlling right wing government and press we have at the moment. It becoming harder to find the pictures to post for tumblr and on the blog than it was in the past. This could be seen as a good thing by some, stopping people coming across images that feel aren't suitable for their eyes, but that is why they have the safe search filter. We don't need the state to get in the way of our kinks, we have rights as adults to view what we like.

Clearly there has to be safe guards for children on the internet but I question if it has to be done in away that hides things that people are looking for. Surely we are at a stage where we can write decent filtering software and have that in place on mobile devices as well as computers. It's not hard to set up such software in the home so it shouldn't be hard for the phone companies and ISP's do they same for those that want such filters on there internet connections for what ever reason. The one thing it shouldn't be is compulsory and put in place because of pressure from the nanny state. So to Google be strong and keep the internet free form censorship of acts that are legal.
